Hello Kansas City Disc Doggers!!
We are a group of dogs and their owners that enjoy playing frisbee, for fun and competition. We welcome everyone from beginners to experts to join our club. Whether you just want to play with your dog in the backyard or get involved with competing and performing, we can help!
We also perform for sporting events like the K.C. Royals, K.C. Chiefs, K.C. Wizards, along with corporate parties and functions – click on “booking” to see how to get the KC Disc Dogs at your event (see web site for details)
As we kick off another new year I know we are all getting “disc dog fever” – ready to get consistent disc dogging activities in full swing again! This year is shaping up to have lots of cool local things for the Kansas City area. Here is a list of a few things we know of, and of course we will be adding to this list, including many local demos that our members will be able to participate in.
March Play Date – In Gladstone, MO – exact date TBD
Spring Shootout – Disc Dogathon world qualifier, April 11, Gladstone, MO – details to come.
The Skyhoundz local event in Lawrence for Art in the Park is the first weekend in May and the KCDD always helps run that event for Lawrence Parks and Rec.
Our regular Play Dates will start up again April through October at the Kemper Outdoor Education center near Lake Jacomo. These will be on the second Sunday of each month (barring any of our events that conflict or events at the park) – but check fb for details before each date to make sure all is on schedule. Remember – you can come out to any of our Play Dates or Competitions even if you are not an “official” KCDD member – everyone is welcome to come play with your dog!!!
We are also planning some training sessions to help anyone with their throwing skills.
The Land of Oz V will take place in Lawrence, KS on June 13, 14 and 15 and will again be a huge event with the Quadruped finals on Saturday, a Skyhoundz Open world qualifier on Sunday – and crowning of an overall Kansas State Champion! We will also have the Disc Golf tourney/outing on Monday, which is always a great wrap up to the weekend.
September will see the Kansas City Classic back in Grain Valley. This is an awesome competition that features the wicked “Hoop” game along with several others, next to the carnival (Turkey legs and cotton candy just a few steps away!) Exact date TBD
October will be the Dogtoberfest celebration where we always run a disc dog event for the parks department – this takes place at our play date location near Lake Jacomo.
We are excited to be getting some new merchandise as well – new hats and hoodies along with a few surprises will be coming in before the season gets underway so you can load up on swag and be the envy of all your friends.
As always, it is the members and volunteers who make this club and all of it’s events work, so if you want to be involved in helping out with stuff, let me know – cause we do appreciate it! If anyone has any thoughts, ideas, or questions regarding the club – don’t hesitate to shoot me an email!!
For all event info, stay connected on the Facebook page. That is where we post any demos, competitions or info. Of course it is also the place to interact with other club members and help answer questions that new folks have. We have one of the busiest and grooviest Facebook pages of any club, so thanks for all of your participation to keep it that way!!!
Club membership fees are due on Jan 1 – (If you signed up for the first time in Sept or later last year your membership lasts through 2015) – you can pay your dues at the website or at any event or play date. Members get discounts on Merch and competition fees, plus you are helping support this thing we all love doing!
One last thought – our dogs are athletes. No athlete would try to just come out to the first event of the year and give it their all without some training leading up to that. So just like all of us human members of the team may need to work off some Christmas cookies and shape up a bit – don’t forget to start stepping up your dog’s conditioning now so they will be ready to hit the field when the season starts! A fit dog is a happy healthy dog and will be less likely to have injuries during the season.
Here’s to a great season of Disc Dogging!
